Having received a Fine Art degree from Newcastle University in 1991, I then taught for 14 years in West Sussex. During this period I continued to produce work on a small scale but always aspired to fulfill my ambition to make sculpture full time. In 2011, a move to Hampshire arose and an opportunity to reduce my teaching hours in order to pursue my work on a more serious footing became a realization. Keeping sketchbooks, drawing, painting and making maquettes has always been an ongoing part of my creative expression since 1987 and the chance to focus on the sculpture again has resulted in my first major solo show at Bedales Gallery, April/May 2013. Moving to Hampshire has enabled me to reconnect with my artistic practice, and to attract public scrutiny and dialogue about my work. In addition to the forthcoming show, I have work at Jane Fuest Gallery in Alresford and produced a 5 ton granite piece for Churcher’s College, Petersfield, to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (above).
